"The class was AWESOME...I learned so much. Now I am ready to build on my own. Also, the next day, I received a call from a gentleman in Louisville who wanted to talk to a realtor about adding green items to his existing house, evaluations, and whether he can make the investment back when selling in a couple of years. I used a lot of knowledge from the class. It was perfect. Thanks again!"
– Pam Oden, Realtor, Remax
"I have taken college classes on energy and have attended numerous workshops on green homes. I learned more in this workshop from Scott and Ron than in all of my past educational activities combined. They pulled it all together for me."
- J.C. Martel, Center for Resource Conservation
Sustainability has been an integral value for Rodwin Architecture since we opened our doors in ’99. Our principal has helped lead the green architecture movement for two decades and all our staff have been chosen because of their skill and dedication to this idea. All of our staff are LEED Accredited Professionals, and we have been involved with several LEED projects, with more currently on the boards.
We teach green building for several groups and are in the midst of writing a green home guide for a national publication (see image above). We are currently working on a LEED school, an Energy Star church, a townhouse complex that is looking to create entry-level green homes, and we have recently completed construction on a near Net-Zero energy LEED Platinum house. Whatever your sustainability goals are, we can help you meet them.
Our staff has experience working with a number of different rating systems including LEED, Built Green, HERS, the City of Boulder’s Green Points Program and Boulder County’s BuildSmart. Local green codes are now some of the strictest in the country and if you are building here it’s important to have a thorough understanding of how they work and how to meet them.
We have worked with Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs), Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs), straw bale, super-insulated stick frame and steel frame construction, photovoltaics (PV), solar thermal, geothermal (ground source heat pumps), radiant floor heating, super-efficient mechanical and lighting systems. We can work with you to create a healthy, non-toxic home or business, and find renewable and recycled materials that help you to care for the planet as you build your project. Whatever your priorities, we can help you to select the systems and products that provide optimal value for you.
Over the years we assembled a team of top consultants compatible with this approach to creating integrated, ecologically responsible buildings (general contractors, mechanical and electrical engineers, deconstruction experts, Energy modelers and HERS raters). We make it easy to be green.
We approach the design of your project from a whole systems perspective. We look at the site and the opportunities it presents. We consider energy, natural resources and environmental health in every aspect of the decision-making process. Ultimately the intention of designing this way is quite simply to create a place that works with the world rather than against it. The result is a building that lives lightly on the land, consumes fewer resources, doesn’t pollute you or the planet, is comfortable to be in, is easy to maintain and is a joy to see for a very, very long time.
"What’s the use of a house if you don’t have a decent planet to put it on?"
– Henry David Thoreau
